Episode 28: Shaman’s Tears #1

Here we go with Image Comics again. Their promise of creator freedom lured in all kinds, including writer/artist Mike Grell. His contribution was the series Shaman’s Tears. Host Nathaniel Wayne only has this first issue, so let’s hope it starts strong because this is the only shot it has!

Episode 27: The Amazing Spider-Man #366

Back when host Nathaniel Wayne covered issue #365 in episode 19, that ended with the surprise reveal that Spidey’s long dead parents are in fact alive. Time to find out how that happened and what mysterious villain is involved! Oh wait, he’s right there on the cover. Twice in fact. Nevermind, we can go home everybody!

Episode 26: Fantastic Four Unlimited #1

There are only two issues of Fantastic Four on the docket for this podcast. But with it being an oversized issue like this, host Nathaniel Wayne had to bring in one half of the Fantasticast. Andrew Leyland comes in to help take a look at what happens when Marvel’s First Family goes EXTREME.

Ok so this doesn’t work, but the interior art is a different art team, so maybe it gets better.

And now for some interior pages from the comic written by Roy Thomas and with art by Herb Trimpe.

Ok, so this isn’t off to a good start on the inside either.

Episode 25: Sabretooth #1&2

When you think of Wolverine’s villains there’s one name that undoubtedly floats to the top: Sabretooth. And in the 1993 Marvel decided to give the villain his own mini-series. Host Nathaniel Wayne takes a look at the first two issues of this attempt to give a vicious killer who’s literally characterized as having little personality beyond savagery his own title.

Episode 24: Spawn #6&7

Given how many issues of Spawn are on the docket, I’m a bit overdue to get back into the mopey gothic bugger. So this calls for a doubling up to cover the two issue story involving that most 90s of things: an oversized, overmuscled killer cyborg.

Does anybody feel like Spawn is on the ground going “I can’t… he’s too EXTREME!”

2466978-spawn__1992__007

Guns that just sort of leak fire when you hold the barrel seem impractical to me but then again I might not be EXTREME enough to get it.

Episode 23: The Amazing Spider-Man 374 & 375

These two issues see the return of one of Spidey’s most iconic villains and sets the stage for some much of the Venom-ness that would permeate the rest of the 90s. For these two issues, I knew I couldn’t do it alone. So I brought in the only man for the job, a man who had a letter printed in a Spider-Man comic about how amazing Venom was: Siskoid. So let’s see how the symbiotic villain fares this time around, now that he’s not being saddled alongside Carnage.

Episode 22: Aliens – Newt’s Tale

Back in Episode 8 I took a look at Dark Horse and their attempts to milk the Predator franchise, now it’s time to take a look at that arch rival of those aliens… the… Aliens… In a story that claims to chronicle the adventures of the young girl from the James Cameron directed sci-fi action classic that was a follow up to the Ridley Scott directed sci-fi horror classic. Those are some pretty hefty boots to fill… let’s see how this does.
